Multilayered regulation of secondary metabolism in medicinal plants

چکیده

Abstract Medicinal plants represent a huge reservoir of secondary metabolites (SMs), substances with significant pharmaceutical and industrial potential. However, obtaining remains challenge due to their low-yield accumulation in medicinal plants; moreover, these are produced through tightly coordinated pathways involving many spatiotemporally environmentally regulated steps. The first regulatory layer involves complex network transcription factors; second, more recently discovered complexity the regulation SMs is epigenetic modification, such as DNA methylation, histone modification small RNA-based mechanisms, which can jointly or separately influence by regulating gene expression. Here, we summarize findings fields genetic special emphasis on plants, providing new perspective multiple layers Graphical

Screening of Medicinal Plants for Secondary Metabolites

The traditional medicine involves the use of different plant extracts or the bioactive constituents. This type of study provides the health application at affordable cost. Secondary metabolites are responsible for medicinal activity of plants. Hence in the present study phytochemical screening of some important medicinal plants was carried out. Qualitative phytochemical analysis of these plants...

Linking Chemistry and Genomics for the Study of Secondary Metabolism in Aromatic and Medicinal Plants

The study of the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites and the genes involved in these processes has been greatly facilitated by novel genomic approaches developed during the last years. Many of the biosynthetic pathways dedicated to secondary metabolism, and the enzymes involved in these pathways, have apparently evolved from the much better studied primary biosynthetic pathways. Therefore by ...

Regulation of Bone Metabolism

Bone is formed through the processes of endochondral and intramembranous ossification. In endochondral ossification primary mesenchymal cells differentiate to chondrocytes and then are progressively substituted by bone, while in intramembranous ossification mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) differentiate directly into osteoblasts to form bone. The steps of osteogenic proliferation, differentiation,...

[Molecular biological studies on diversity of secondary metabolism in medicinal plants and application to the production in transgenic plants].

A molecular biological approach was applied to the study of diversity and regulation of secondary metabolism in medicinal plants at various levels. For the inter-species diversity, RFLP (restriction fragment length polymorphism) and RAPD (random amplified polymorphic DNA) analyses of genomic DNA were performed on the plants, belonging to the same genus or family and containing related compounds...

Regulation of pyrimidine metabolism in plants.

Pyrimidine nucleotides represent one of the most fundamental of cellular components. They are the building blocks for the direct synthesis of DNA and RNA that function in information storage and retrieval within the cell, but they also participate in the metabolism of a large number of other cellular components from sugar interconversion to cellular polysaccharides to glycoproteins and phosphol...
